RubinBrown Forms Professional Services Group Print

Group will address practice management issues shared by architects, law firms and others

RubinBrown has established a new Professional Services Group to better serve its clients in a variety of service industries. John F. Herber Jr., CPA, managing partner, made the announcement.

“We already have more than 300 professional services clients, making Professional Services one of our largest industry groups,” said Herber. “By forming this group, we will be able to address the shared issues these professionals face, while still applying industry-specific expertise.”

Kenneth L. Rubin, CPA, partner-in-charge of the new group, explained that the professional services category encompasses a wide range of companies. Clients include architects and engineers; law firms; physician and other health care practices; advertising agencies and public relations firms; insurance agencies; investment advisors; management, marketing, technology and other consultants; interior designers; staffing firms and travel agencies.

“Professional services firms are unique, no matter what their size,” said Rubin. “Servicing these clients goes beyond traditional accounting. They expect the same personal service they provide to their clients, and RubinBrown is committed to developing a partnership with them that will further their business goals.”

Including Rubin, the Professional Services Group includes five partners – Don Esstman, CPA, Mark Jansen, CPA, Theresa Lynch Ruzicka, CPA, and Ed Warren, CPA, CFP. Supported by a team of experienced managers, the group is well-trained in the accounting and tax requirements for services firms in specific industries.

“We previously had specific groups for some of these industries,” explained Rubin. “However, we discovered that these organizations deal with many of the same practice management issues, such as controlling costs by engagement and billing issues, as well as succession planning.

Many tax issues, including accounting methods and compensation-related issues, are also comparable. These similarities should provide insight across all professional services firms."

RubinBrown has made a concerted effort to provide expanded services to its clients. Earlier this year, RubinBrown added a Media and Entertainment Services Group and broadened its Hospitality Services Group to include gaming.
