RubinBrown chairman recognized for commitment to the accounting profession
ST. LOUIS, Feb. 2007 “ Each year, Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead Department of Accountancy selects an individual who has made significant contributions to the ideas and practice of accountancy to receive the Braden Award.
This year's recipient was James G. Castellano, CPA, chairman of RubinBrown. Castellano accepted the award at a ceremony on Jan. 19.
Pictured here are (from left to right): Gary J. Previts, CPA, professor and associate dean of undergraduate and integrated study programs, Case Western; Castellano; Julie Grant, CPA, associate professor and director of accountancy Ph.D. studies, Case Western; and Clarke Price, CAE, president and CEO, Ohio Society of CPAs. We often refer to the Braden Award as the ˜Accounting Thinker' award because the focus is on the ideas that shape our profession, and the trophy is a small replica of Rodin's ˜Thinker,' said Gary J. Previts, CPA, professor and associate dean of undergraduate and integrated study programs at Case Western. Our leadership selected Jim because of his lifetime of contributions to the CPA profession, especially his role in the matter of enhancing financial reporting for private companies. Consistently listed by Accounting Today as one of the profession's most influential people, Castellano serves as chairman of both RubinBrown and Baker Tilly International, an international association of independent accounting and business consulting firms. From 2001 to 2002, Castellano was chairman of the board of directors for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, representing more than 330,000 members. He has been recognized by the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants as CPA of the Year, by the Clayton Chamber of Commerce as Business Person of the Year, by the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants with an Outstanding Visionary Award, and by Rockhurst College as an Outstanding Alumnus. He also received the Gold Medal for distinguished service from AICPA. Castellano holds a bachelor's degree from Rockhurst University and serves on that institution's board of trustees. He is past chairman of the Fontbonne University Council of Regents and serves on the board of directors for the Cardinal Glennon Hospital Foundation. He also is co-chair of the Annual Bob Costas Benefit for the Bob Costas Cancer Center and is treasurer of the St. Louis Regional Business Council. |
