Focus on Taxation: Colorado Pre-Certification of Enterprise Zone Credits
Tax
Effective January 1, 2012, for businesses located in an Enterprise Zone, Colorado now requires pre-certification of eligibility for Enterprise Zone Credits.
Failure to obtain pre-certification prior to any business activity that would generate the Entreprise Zone Credit will negate the availability of any credits. This includes the investment tax credit, commercial vehicle investment tax credit, new business facility jobs credit, research and development credit, qualified job training credit, and rehabilitation of vacant commercial buildings credit. (NOTE: Pre-certification is not required for the contribution tax credit.) Pre-certification must be obtained for each year that a credit would otherwise be generated.
Pre-certification can be applied for online by clicking here. You may also submit DR 0074, DR0076, or DR 077 certification forms to the zone administrator.
Please contact RubinBrown if you would like assistance in determining if your business is located in an Enterprise Zone, will be eligible for credits, or to obtain pre-certification.
