The IRS recently issued this fact sheet to help companies protect themselves from unscrupulous third-party payers.
It's important to note that companies who outsource payroll duties are just as legally responsible for any and all payroll taxes due as those who handle their own payroll. This includes federal income taxes withheld, social security, and Medicare.
