RubinBrown recently celebrated the one year anniversary of its CORTEX Innovation Community office opening. RubinBrown officially opened its satellite office at CIC in the @4240 building in October 2014.
Why did RubinBrown make the move? RubinBrown made the move into the Innovation Community in order to have resources and team members in the heart of St. Louis’ innovation and startup ecosystem. The goal was to make RubinBrown as accessible as possible, raise awareness about the firm and what it has to offer, and to fully support entrepreneurial initiatives. “This move is a joint initiative of our Life Sciences & Technology Services Group and Entrepreneurial Services Group,” said Steven Harris, CPA, and Partner-in-Charge of RubinBrown’s Entrepreneurial Services Group. “We wanted to put valuable resources in the middle of this innovation center as we assist emerging companies build their businesses.”
What did RubinBrown see in the first year? A tremendous amount of positive change has occurred in the CORTEX Innovation Community and the broader St. Louis region. CIC@4240 opened, the Center for Emerging Technologies received significant investment and improvements and was rebranded as CIC@CET and the opening of TechShop’s first location in St. Louis was officially announced. Work is now underway on the 4260 building that will host TechShop and a soon to be announced additional tenant. More importantly, we saw an extensive amount of entrepreneurial activity, collaboration and innovation that extended far beyond the borders of the CORTEX Innovation District. From T-Rex on downtown’s Washington Avenue to the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in West St. Louis County and OPO Startups in St. Charles County, there has been a significant level of innovation and startup activity that continues to accelerate.
What is RubinBrown looking forward to? We look forward to seeing the continued growth and maturation of the ecosystem. The first year has been incredibly exciting, informative and rewarding, but we think the best is yet to come. With recent announcements such as Square committing to having a presence in St. Louis, LaunchCode expanding both within and beyond St. Louis and the increased levels of collaboration among the region’s corporate entities, universities, and the entrepreneurial ecosystem, we believe that the conditions are right to create a dynamic and vibrant engine of economic growth driven by innovation and collaboration. RubinBrown is extremely excited to be a part of it.
