The Jefferson Ballroom on Chouteau was buzzing with beer talk on February 13, 2017, as brewers from across the city joined together for the St. Louis Brewers Guild’s inaugural State of the Brew’nion event. Nearly 50 area craft breweries were represented at the event. Pints clinked together as the local beer pioneers laughed and swapped brewing stories with one another.
As everyone settled in their seats, author and beer connoisseur, Stan Hieronymus, spoke on a number of topics dealing with the latest scientific discoveries in the brewing industry. He described the new research findings on bitterness in hops and even dug deep into yeast genetics and strains.
The evening concluded with the St. Louis Brewers Guild Stewardship Award presentation to Schlafly Co-Founder, Dan Kopman. Mr. Kopman not only spoke about his love for the brewing process, but also chronicled his journey back to St. Louis (from Scotland) and the eventual founding of Schlafly in 1991. His acceptance speech moved the room, and was the perfect cap to an enlightening, informative evening with the local brewing community.
