In this engaging webinar, Erika Cheung will offer an insider's perspective on witnessing the unraveling of a Silicon Valley fraud. Rather than treating ethical failures as the work of a few bad actors, she examines the conditions that allow them to take hold and go unchallenged. She'll walk through how ethical drift shows up in ordinary decisions, and what accountants and advisors can watch out for in their own client and firm environments.

Attendees of the session will be equipped to:

• Reflect on personal boundary conditions in the workplace, and recognize when those lines are being tested
• Build awareness of the challenges of speaking up in high-pressure environments
• Identify the difference between moral arguments and legal arguments
• Adopt a multi-lensed approach to understanding where ethical lapses occur across business environments

Participants will walk away with a clearer sense of their personal limits, practical language for raising concerns before problems escalate, and a framework for recognizing the organizational conditions where misconduct takes root.

 

About Erika Cheung: 

Erika Cheung is the executive director of Ethics in Entrepreneurship, a non-profit whose mission is to foster ethical questioning, culture, and systems in startups and innovation ecosystems.

Erika is an advisor to several family offices, venture capital firms, and governmental investment programs focused on healthcare, biosciences, and biotechnology companies. She invests a portion of her time building cross-border networks between the US and the Asia Pacific region to facilitate the growth of companies operating in emerging markets.

Her first job out of college was working for Theranos, where she subsequently was one of the critical whistleblowers reporting the fraud case to regulators preventing the company from providing false lab results to patients.
